Top 10 Food Trucks in San Diego 2020

by Adorn Themes Collaborator

San Diego is a foodie destination by all accounts, with south of the border delights matching west coast comfort stop by stop and bite by bite. Fusion cuisine is a big deal here and these food trucks have played a large part in this evolution. Here at Nomad Eyewear we're massive food lovers, especially street food. So we've complied a list of the top 10 food trucks San Diego, CA has to offer. Read on...

Shawarma Guys

We have to start this list with Shawarma Guys, a food truck parked along Grape Street in South Park six days a week. Why start with these guys? Well...they've just been named the No. 1 place to eat in the United States. Yes, you read that right! Yelp have just awarded this unassuming little food truck the top place to grab some grub in the whole of the US.

Yelp released Tuesday its annual list of the “Top Places to Eat in the U.S.” in 2020 and Shawarma Guys – an unassuming little food truck parked six days a week along Grape Street in South Park – took top honors.

Shawarma Guys specializes in authentic Mediterranean cuisine which, as the small business’ website proudly proclaims is “made with love.” Items on the menu range from $3 to $15 and include hummus, tabouli, Greek salad, and, of course – shawarma, including Wagyu Beef Shawarma and Chicken Shawarma.

MUST TRY
Shawarma. Obviously.

Kiko's Place Seafood

San Diego is known for its amazing seafood and Mexican dining options, ranging from taco stands to fancy restaurants. Kiko’s Place (the “place” actually being a mobile food truck) takes the best of both worlds and serves delicious Mexican-style seafood dishes!

They are well-known for their quality fish tacos offering everything from octopus to shrimp! They also serve different kinds of ceviche, oysters, clams, quesadillas, burritos, and more. Their fish items are always fresh and match the quality of seafood served by other highly esteemed, San Diego restaurants.

MUST TRY
Crawfish etouffee.

Mariscos Nine Seas Seafood

It may look like every other marisco food truck in San Diego, of which there are about a million, and it may be permanently parked in the lot of a Target Express. But this restaurant on wheels serves some of the city's best and cheapest Mexican food, where tacos come in at just under $2—each.

Be warned, though, that this isn't a sit-down spot—its tented "dining area" consists of a table, but no chairs. Do as the locals do, and find yourself some real estate on a nearby cement ledge.

Foodies, hipsters, families, and construction workers all convene here. The only difference? While some refuel with a quick taco or two, others are settling in to a standing mini-feast.

While the truck may be known for its tacos (the fish, marlin, and fried shrimp are perennial favorites), the modest operation also cranks out quesadillas, seafood cocktails, and burritos.

MUST TRY
Try the tostadas—crunchy corn tortillas topped with tangy, lime-doused seafood chunks.

Monster Crafts Food Truck

Monster Crafts is a monster with a mission – well, actually several monsters with several missions, but were you to line them all up, localism would be front and center. All ingredients are sourced locally from the San Diego, CA community, giving back everything they take. Well, giving back substantially more, if we're including taste here. Which obviously we will. These are the kinds of monsters that might look intimidating at first glance, but really just wanna make you happy at the end of the day.

The Wake'n Bake'n, for instance, contains a perfect patty of beef, topped by a fried egg and a healthy cut of pork belly, drowned in white cheddar and onion jam before being finished with a sauce that's a secret for a damn good reason. Seared lump crab blt leads a trio of similarly imaginative sandwiches, garnished with lemon aioli, crisp onion sticks and arugula, while hand-crafted tacos like the Maui W completes the truck's hat trick of temptations. No matter which route you choose, monstrous satisfaction for your monstrous hunger is guaranteed. So, don't hesitate to book Monster Crafts Food Truck for your next event. You won't regret it.

MUST TRY
The Not So Basic — An epic burger featuring a six-ounce patty smothered in melted white cheddar, apple-wood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and onion jam. Yum.

Leilani's Food Truck

Leilani's is bringing a little taste of the islands wherever it roams, which happens to be in San Diego. Locals and visitors alike are being treated to some truly tropical eats on the streets from a food truck that has all authentic Hawaiian food on board, providing a mini vacation at every turn.

At Leilani's, they're committed to using the freshest quality ingredients in a full bodied menu built to satisfy. Get tender sliced chicken thighs in their sweet and savory teriyaki glaze over rice with creamy mac salad for a surefire way to curb your hunger on the curb. Or say hello to their big ol' Aloha plate, loading slow roasted kalua pork and more of that teriyaki chicken with sides. And we'd be remiss not to mention their poke featuring sushi grade ahi tuna in soy sauce and sesame oil. Mouth watering yet? We thought so. All the more reason to find Leilani's in San Diego, or have 'em out to cater your next event. Trust us. They're sure to please.

MUST TRY
Loco Moco - this traditional Hawaiian dish features a big ol' hamburger patty over white rice and gravy topped with 2 eggs over medium

Taco Love Mobile Catering

Taco Love Mobile Catering is spreading the love around San Diego, CA via all things taco. Let’s be honest – everyone gets giddy when they hear the word “taco bar” when scanning an event invite. This truck’s bringing that experience straight to get-togethers across the Golden State.

The tacos, burritos, and enchiladas here come stuffed with meticulously seasoned fillings. Grab, say, a burrito filled with braised chicken breast sautéed with onions and drenched in chipotle sauce. Meat-free? Not a problem. Snag a taco with soyrizo and nopales drizzled in avocado crema. We could go on all day regaling your delectable options, but that would take away time you could use to book Taco Love Mobile Catering for your next event. Guests will leave thanking you.

MUST TRY
Loaded Fries — A bed of crispy golden brown fries smothered in your choice of protein plus jack cheese, cotija cheese, tomatoes and avocado crema.

Other tempting bites include a variety of loaded fries and house favorites like their Union gumbo and Mexican street corn.

MUST TRY
